SCOTT… Jamaica and West Indies U-19 wicketkeeper/batsman.

Jamaica Under-19 women’s cricket coach Carl Brissett says he sees bright futures in Lena Scott and Kate Wilmott, who were both selected for the West Indies youth team’s tour of India from 7- November 25.

The Jamaicans – both from Westmoreland – are among a 23-strong West Indies Under-19 Women’s squad in Trinidad and Tobago engaging in trial games, plus skills and fitness sessions, led by coach Steve Liburd.

“I’m optimistic that Lena and Kate will do very well because these two girls have a lot of confidence. They believe in their talents, they believe in their abilities and they believe in themselves, so I expect them to do very well.” Brissett told him The Jamaica Observer.

Brissett, who coached Jamaica to the inaugural Rising Stars Women’s U-19 regional championship in Trinidad in July, said both players stood out despite the team finishing fourth.

WILMOTT… Jamaica and West Indies U-19 pace bowling all-rounder.

The 19-year-old Scott, a right-handed, top-order batsman who also keeps wickets, shook off a thigh injury to impress regional selectors in the tournament, which was won by the United States.

“When we took Lena Scott to Trinidad, we took a chance because she wasn’t 100 percent fit. But she’s a better player for us, so we didn’t leave her.

“In the tournament everyone saw her class – she didn’t even keep wicket in one match because we didn’t want to strain her hamstring. She was as good as any other player in the tournament,” explained the Jamaican coach. .

He said 18-year-old Wilmott, whose twin sister Kade is a national junior left-arm pacer, showed her class as a bowling all-rounder.

BRISSETT…they believe in their talents, they believe in their abilities and they believe in themselves, so I expect them to do very well.

“Kate was the fastest bowler in the tournament by a country mile. She bats number four or five in the order and made some runs in the tournament. She is a real team player and is willing to encourage others. She is calm and soft-spoken but takes cricket very seriously,” Brissett said.

According to Cricket West Indies, the India tour forms “an essential part of the team’s preparations” for next year’s ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup 2020 to be held from January 14-29 in South Africa.

The Caribbean team will be drawn in Group C of the tournament alongside New Zealand, Ireland and Indonesia.
