Which part of Prague is the greenest and which is the loudest? Find out through the Prague Institute of Planning and Development
The most populated area of Prague is Prague 2. Prague 10 leads in the number of homes for the elderly in the capital. People will find more job opportunities in Prague 1, and in terms of gardens, Prague 6 has less.
How do we know this information? All this and more can be found in the Catalog of urban areas from the workshop of the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague (IPR). It displays various information about all 57 districts of the city and about Prague as a whole.
“The database contains statistical data from various fields, such as the economy, public facilities or the environment. IPR has now
completely redesigned the six-year-old app and added new functions and data,” says IPR spokesperson Marek Vácha.
The catalog of city districts displays the IPR data processed for the purposes of Territorial Analytical Documents, which are related to a certain city district.
The range of information that the catalog provides is huge – in addition to the basics, such as area, population density or the age structure of the population, the database also contains much less common information, such as the number of shopping centers, the number of active companies or perhaps the number of residents per doctor. Here you can also find out how many people from the district commute to work each day and how many travel within.
“The catalog of city districts serves not only municipalities, municipal politicians or those who deal with territorial planning, but also the general public. It is appreciated, for example, by students or journalists who write about topics related to Prague, and of course also by residents, who can find interesting information about the place where they live, or, on the contrary, choose a place where they will love to live according to their preferred background. We have now expanded this very useful application with new functions and data,” adds IPR director Ondřej Boháč.
From the application you will also learn, for example, that there are 277 cultural objects only on the territory of Prague 1 and 116 hectares of greenery in Prague 7. After fourteen kilometers of marked cycling routes, you can walk to Prague 4. Prague 17, on the other hand , “leads” with the highest number of unemployed, but the same district has also spent the largest investments per inhabitant.
Up to 75.9 percent of Prague 4 residents live in areas where the night noise limit has been exceeded, according to the IPR. This comes as issues around urban noise are coming to the fore following the easing of COVID restrictions.
