West Indies Women’s U19 will play USA Women’s U19 in a five-match T20I international series from August 8-14 in Florida.
The series will mark the first time West Indies and USA will meet in a T20I series.
The tournament, which begins on August 8, will be played at Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.
The USA U19 Women’s Team recently won the CWI Rising Stars Women’s U19 T20 Championship played in Trinidad.
“Women’s cricket has been in dire need of a pathway to refresh the talent of the team and expand the pool of players. That is why it was so urgent to start a program for girls. This historic first India U19 Women’s tour to Florida is thus a learning experience and a crucial step forward for West Indies cricket,” said CWI President Ricky Skerritt.
He said CWI is pleased to work with USA Cricket to create this historic series.
“We have tried to do everything we can to grow the women’s game at all levels across the Caribbean with a particular emphasis on the younger teams and the level of opportunity they are given,” added Skerritt.
Nadia Gruny, USA Cricket Board Member and Chair of the Women and Girls Committee, said they appreciate CWI’s support in making the series a reality.
“USA Cricket has a strong vision to grow the women’s and girls’ game and has invested heavily in this next generation of American players. The performances of our Under-19s in winning the Rising Stars series in the Caribbean showed the level that our home of re- The grown players can play and we look forward to giving the West Indies a very competitive series on home soil in Florida,” Ms Gruny said.
“For the girls to get the added bonus of playing on some of the same pitches and the same stadium that some of the stars of the men’s world game will be using just a few hours earlier is a huge boost and we all know that what does this series mean. for both teams”, she added.
