HUNDREDS of people will line the streets of Wickford for the long-awaited return of the town’s carnival.
Organizers have confirmed that the annual event will return after a three-year hiatus caused by the Covid pandemic.
Sean Ellis, chairman of the Wickford Town Carnival team, hopes the event will bring the community back together after a difficult few years.
He said: “It’s exciting to be bringing the carnival back again.

“It’s a pride in our city and a free event for everyone.
“It contains a sense of community, belonging, togetherness and well-being.
“I think after a three-year absence we deserve a good party, as we’ve all missed it.”
He added: “We have a wonderful team of volunteers here at the carnival and so I would urge everyone to come and see the parade before heading to Nevendon Park for the party.
“It will all be good fun.”
The carnival starts at midday from Runwell Park and then down Wickford High Street before finishing outside Nevendon Park.
Once at Nevendon Park, those attending will be able to enjoy a mix of stalls, rides, food and music.
Don Morris, who represents Wickford Castledon ward on Basildon Council, is delighted to hear the event is returning.
He said: “I think it’s absolutely brilliant that the event is coming back and we’re getting back to normal life.
“It’s great, and I take my hat off to the people who organize it, because you know I really appreciate them doing it.
“It’s fantastic for Wickford to have an event like this, and it’s been three long years without one
“It’s an event that the people and people of Wickford really enjoy and appreciate having in the town.
“I hope people come out to the carnival and show their appreciation for the organizers and volunteers.”
The carnival will start from noon on Saturday, September 10.
