Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB) Technical Director Miles Bascombe said Windwards Cricket’s continued emphasis on women’s cricket matches that of Trinidad and Tobago, hence the enthusiasm for this tournament.

“I’m sure there will be great learning opportunities for these young players,” he said.

To commemorate the occasion and in anticipation of a continued collaboration between the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s Cricket Association (TTWCA) and the WICB, the teams will play for the Browne-John/McIntyre Trophy, named after the Trinidadian Ann Browne-John and the Grenadian the late Nadica. Until her death in 2017, McIntyre was a champion and administrator of women’s cricket. She represented Grenada at regional level in both cricket and netball.

Browne-John, a former West Indies player who is now the West Indies Women’s Chief Selector, said she was “very humbled by this initiative by the WICB and quite honored to be recognized in this way, especially with Nadican , who was a strong supporter of women’s cricket”.

WICB President Dr. Kishore Shallow said the recognition of Browne-John and McIntryre was well deserved.

“Women’s cricket in the West Indies has survived and prospered through the incalculable efforts of the likes of Ann and Nadica. These two distinguished ladies have been supporters of women’s cricket in the region. Without reservations, the recognition is truly meritorious and monumental,” he said.
