Wizkid prepares his new album as he drops some new music.
The Afrobeats singer on Thursday previewed a new track from his upcoming album “Money & Love” and also announced the release date for his upcoming album. More Love, Less Ego. The album is Wizkid’s fifth studio album, and while it’s not yet available in the United States, the artist shared a preview of the project’s already released tracklist in Doha, Qatar.
The artist also shared the music video for “Money & Love,” which has a 90s vibe, featuring fully clothed women reading magazines at a bus stop while the artist sips from a gorgeous cup of tea.
Wizkid’s career has been on a steady rise over the years as he’s worked with Drake, Justin Bieber and Beyoncé and even had one of Afrobeats’ biggest singles, putting the genre on the map and helping secure the category of his Grammy.
With tracks like “Essence,” featuring Tems, and his recent collaboration with Chris Brown, “Call Me Everyday,” the artist has helped pave the way for Afrobeats to merge into the mainstream United States market.
Wizkid More Love Less Ego
In August, Wizkid achieved a new milestone and a career first as the only artist from the African continent to earn a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for his album Made in Lagos.
Along with his album sales accolades, he is also a four (4) time Grammy nominated artist, and he also won his first Grammy Award for “Brown Skin Girl” after working on the album “Black is King ” of Beyonce.
Wizkid also holds two other RIAA Gold certifications, one for the Grammy-nominated song “Come Closer,” featuring Canadian rapper Drake, and another for Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl.” While talking about his achievements, the artist talked about Afrobeats going global.
“I don’t see it that way,” he said. “I don’t think I’m the first to go through this. I don’t know what I did, but I just opened the door. I feel like everyone will pass now. There will be many records from Africa,” he said in August.
Last month, the Grammys revealed it was touring countries in Africa to support a potential Grammy category for Afrobeats. The genre has also received its own playlists on streaming platforms and charts as it grows internationally.
