The Worcester Police Department is advising residents and visitors that the Latin American Festival on Saturday may cause traffic delays due to road closures.
The 30th iteration of the event organized by CENTRO INC. is “a grand celebration of diversity and culture with more than 15,000 attendees coming each year to enjoy a day full of fun, food and entertainment,” according to the event’s Facebook page. .
The event runs from 11am to 9pm on Worcester Common.
To ensure the safety of the large number of pedestrians attending the event, the Worcester Police Department announced that the following streets will be closed on Saturday:
- Frontage Road: Closed between Main and Commercial from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m
- Commercial Street: Closed between Mechanic / Commercial Street and Front from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Front Street: Closed between Commercial and Church from approx. 11 am to 10 pm
- Franklin Street: Closed between Main and Salem from 3pm to 10pm
- Portland Street: Closed between Federal and Franklin from 3pm to 10pm
- Salem Road: Closed between Library at Franklin from 3pm to 10pm
- Main St: Chatham to Pleasant: Possible closure, but WRTA should plan as if Main St will be closed from 5pm to 10pm
The police advise drivers to be careful when driving on the above roads.
Performers at Saturday’s event will include Willie Gonzalez, El Rey Tulile, Ada Betsabé, Bando Duro Swing, Alex Hernandez and Son de mi Tierra
The event will also have food vendors, children’s activities and crafts, according to the Facebook page.
