WVU Concludes Fall Schedule vs. NC State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 5-ranked West Virginia University rifle team wraps up its fall schedule on Friday, Nov. 18, as the Mountaineers welcome state No. 11 NC to Morgantown.

Friday’s contest against the Wolfpack will be shot in two relays throughout the day. The first relay will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET, and the second relay will follow at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will be shot at the WVU Rifle Range. West Virginia (9-1, 4-0 GARC) is 22-0 all-time against NC State (2-3, 1-3 GARC), with the streak dating back to 1959. Last season, the Mountaineers defeated then-No. . 11 NC State, 4730-4652, on October 17, 2021, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Highlanders are coming off a 4725-4649 victory over the No. 14 Army on Nov. 12, at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point, New York. West Virginia claimed both disciplines of the match, with a 2347 in rifle and a 2378 in air rifle. The Army shot a 2307 with a bore and a 2342 with an air rifle.

The Highlanders took the top nine spots on the individual leaderboard against Army. WVU was led by junior Matt Sanchez, who tied his career high in total scoring (1,183) and set a new career high in the minors (588). The Tampa, Florida, native also ended up with a 595 air rifle.

WVU ranks fourth nationally in cumulative grade point average (4720.334). Additionally, the Highlanders are third in the nation in air rifle average (2380.167) and are fourth in small rifle average (2340.167).

Senior Mary Tucker continues to lead the team in the all-around average (1187.333), junior average (590) and air rifle average (597.333). The Sarasota, Florida, native is No. 2 nationally in total average, no. 3 in air rifle average and no. 7 on the average of small cuts.
