MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In the eighth season under the guidance of the coach Reed SunaharaThe West Virginia University volleyball team opens the 2022 season at the Penn State Classic Aug. 26-27 at Penn State’s Rec Hall in University Park, Pennsylvania.
WVU opens play against Loyola on Friday, August 26th at 12pm ET. The team wraps up action Friday against Duquesne at 4:30 p.m. The Mountaineers conclude the Penn State Classic when they face Penn State on Saturday, August 27, at 7:00 p.m.

“We’re excited about this weekend,” Sunahara said. “It will give us a good indication of where we are and we are looking forward to playing three games against three good teams.”
Last year, the team tied a program-best 8-8 to finish third in the Big 12, the league’s highest finish in Sunahara’s seven-year tenure. Overall, WVU posted a 19-win season, the second-highest total of Sunahara’s WVU career. Highlanders return to the field this season 7 literary.
Five individuals finished the season in the top 10 of the Big 12’s six categories.Junior Skye Stokes finished second with 56 service aces.
Fifth year offensive lineman out Adrian Ell scored 432 points, good for fourth in the Big 12. In addition, she finished seventh in kills with 354, averaging 3.47 kills per set.
The Mountaineers and Greyhounds meet for the fourth time in program history on Friday. WVU swept Loyola in its most recent meeting on August 27, 2021, in Norfolk, Virginia. Of note, WVU leads the all-time series 2-1.
This will be the 48th meeting between the Highlanders and Duke on the volleyball court, as WVU leads the series, 28-19.
The team wraps up the weekend on Saturday when they take on tournament host Penn State. The Highlanders are looking for their first win against the Nittany Lions.
