Zachary tells of his plan to be First In The Kitchen on Christmas Day

At nine years old, Zachary Ransome is among this country’s youngest artists.

Determined to find his place and firmly carve his name in the cultural landscape of Trinidad and Tobago, he has worked tirelessly to do so.

He has performed at several major events including:

  • Premier’s Best Village Trophy Competition
  • 60th Independence Diamond Jubilee Celebration at Queen’s Park Savannah
  • Republic Day Celebrations at San Fernando Library Corner
  • Kalpyso Revue Virtual Tent with Mr. Michael Osouna aka Sugar Aloes

Zachary Ransome, Zac to his family and closest friends, is also the 2022 Eastern Credit Union Monarch Virtual Elementary School Winner.

The young artist has released a new song almost every year since he was four years old.

His latest musical offering, titled soca parang First in the kitchenwas released on November 7, to good reviews.

The song, which was written by his Prince Unique, with a video shot and directed by Jadee, tells of the youngster’s determination to be first in the kitchen on Christmas Day.

loop had the chance to chat with Zachary ahead of his birthday today.

Here’s some of what he had to say.

loop: Who is Zachary Ransome?

Zachary: Zachary Ransome is a young entertainer who loves to sing, loves music and sports and enjoys his childhood travel. I am nine years old and attend Montrose Government Primary School.

LOOP: How and when did your music career begin?

Zachary: I was four years old when my mother took me to an Emancipation show at OWTU Hall in Fyzabad, where she performed. I asked to sing and was given the opportunity. I went on stage and sang Friends are like flowers, I was applauded by everyone and received a standing ovation for my bravery. My parents recognized my talent and courage, so they exposed me to calypso, where I was encouraged by everyone who listened.

LOOP: What do you like most about what you do?

Zachary: I love being able to sing, entertain and learn about the history of our calypso.

LOOP: What is your favorite genre of music?

Zachary: I’m a soca man

LOOP: Who or what inspires you?

Zachary: My mother who believes in me.

LOOP: Is it hard to balance school, friends and your career as an artist?

Zachary: No, because everyone has their own space.

LOOP: Outside of music, what do you do for fun?

Zachary: I like to swim and play with my friends

LOOP: Have you ever struggled with stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

Zachary: Not really. I feel so good on stage that I’m not sure if it’s stage fright. My mother assures me that I am a brave boy.

LOOP: What is the best thing that ever happened to you?

Zachary: To score a goal against the best player in my football club

LOOP: Do you write your own songs?

Zachary: No. My dad writes most of my songs

LOOP: What do you like most about your country?

Zachary: Our food and music.

LOOP: Who are some of the artists (local or international) you would like to collaborate with?

Zachary: Aaron Duncan, Voice the Artiste, Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin

Zachary: Humble, happy and playful
