Trio hit fifties to bolster Red Force

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Amir Jangoo, Tion Webster and Terrance Hinds rescued Trinidad and Tobago Red Force with half-centuries on day two of their opening first-round match of the Regional First-Class Championship here yesterday.

Playing on day two at the Grenada National Stadium, the Red Force recovered from 82 for five to reach 315 all out in their first innings and secure a 73-run lead over the Windward Islands Volcanoes.

Left-hander Jangoo top-scored with 86, while Tion Webster scored 79 and Terrance Hinds 52, ensuring the Red Force rallied in the face of fast bowler Ryan John’s five-for-18 spell.

In their second turn at the crease, the Volcanoes reached 62 not out with Kimani Melius unbeaten on 39 and Jerlani Robindon on 20 not out.

Resuming the morning at 50 for one in reply to the Volcanoes’ 243, the Red Force suffered a collapse that saw four wickets fall for 14 runs in quick time.

Test batsman Darren Bravo, unbeaten overnight on 32, was out first in the morning’s sixth over lbw to left-arm wicketkeeper Preston McSween, triggering slippage.

Jangoo inspired the comeback in a knock that featured six fours and required 142 deliveries. He first posted 138 in a six-wicket stand with Webster who hit five fours and five sixes in a quickfire 86-ball knock, and then anchored a 78-run, seventh-run stand with Hinds hitting half a dozen fours and some six. in a 64-ball performance.

At the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes made a torrid effort to reach 163 for six against the Jamaica Scorpions from the full 90 overs.

Opting to bat first, the Hurricanes got a top score of 40 from captain Jahmar Hamilton who hit seven fours from 102 deliveries while opener Montcin Hodge was dragged to 37 from 170 balls from three fours and a six.

Two partnerships held the innings together. First, Hamilton and Hodge put on 59 for the fourth wicket to dig out of a hole at 40 for three and when the innings fell to 117 for six, Test all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall (29 not out) and Jeremiah Louis (17). not out) bundled their side into an unbroken seventh partnership of 46.
